Obituary
Dr. Sudip Dey was born at Medinipur town of West Bengal, India. He studied in Medinipur Collegiate Scholl upto Higher Secondary class, Chandernagore Government College at Undergraduate level and obtained his Masters degree from DAV College, Kanpur under Kanpur University in 1994. He had received his Ph.D. degree from Vidyasagar University, West Bengal, India in 2005 for his research work on “Environmental Problems along Digha-Shankarpur Coastal Tract and their Impact” under the supervision of Prof. G. P. Chattopadhyay. Dr. Dey had received the ‘PROF. N.P. AIYYER YOUNG GEOGRAPHERS AWARD in 2004.
Dr. Sudip Dey (28.12. 1971- 30.06.2012).
Dr. Dey started his professional career as an Asst. Teacher in a Higher Secondary school in 1997. He left the School to join in the Department of Geography, Agartala Women’s College, Tripura as an Asst. Professor on 16th January, 2004. In the same year on 3rd December he had finally joined in the Department of Geography and Disaster Management, Tripura University as a Lecturer and continued in the same post till the end of his life. He was one of the founder members of the Department.
In his short span of life Dr. Dey had published 40 research papers in different national and international journals, was carrying out two research projects and became a member of Editorial Board of two reputed journals. He had established the Ministry of Earth Sciences, Govt. of India funded GPS Station in Tripura University in 2012 for monitoring the movement of plates. His specializations were Coastal Geomorphology, Micro- and Tectonic Geomorphology.
He has left all of us on June 30, 2012. The vacuum created by his sudden demise is very difficult to fill up.
May his soul rest in peace.

Asrat, A. & Zwoliński, ZB., Geoheritage: from Geoarchaeology to Geotourism. Editorial. Quaestiones Geographicae 31(1), Bogucki Wydawnictwo Naukowe, Poznań 2012, pp. 5–6. DOI 10.2478/v10117-012-0011-y, ISSN 0137-477X.
The presented volume, apart from regular scientific articles, comprises a set of six papers under joint title Geoheritage: from geoarchaeology to geotourism. Geoheritage seems to be the most spacious concept – not only does it fulfill geological and geomorphological, but also natural environment protection and cultural landscape modern scientific standards. Each paper, based on geographical environment study, indicates specific connections with human-affected history and indicates the need to protect investigated objects or areas. Pre-quaternary geological and morphological structures of British Isles are described by Piotr Migoń and Andrew Goudie, who conclude that despite deposits of consecutive glaciations, existing landforms evidenced even earlier natural history of this area. Geoarchaeological scientific trend is represented in Eric Fouache et al.’s paper, in which the authors reconstruct morphological changes in Shrine Letoon (Turkey) area. An interesting example of single landform (sinkhole) description and valorization is depicted in paper of Paola Coratza et al., who indicate on possibilities of sinkhole’s touristic usage (Malta). Extremely interesting scientific approach to geodiversity employed within amulti-disciplinary framework is presented by Michael Thomas, who brings up issues of geomorphic complexity, landscape sensitivity and connectivity between different landscape elements. Geodiversity, geoarchaeology and geoheritage information usage in geotourism is presented in the two last papers by Asfawossen Asrat et al. and Zbigniew Zwoliński and Jakub Stachowiak. The former authors describe geotouristic values of fascinating Simien Mts. in the paper, which is a natural continuation of their book Geotourism in Ethiopia. The latter authors consider connections between geodiversity merits and touristic routes in the Tatra National Park (Poland).

CALL for GRANTS for the IAG/AIG International Workshop on “Objective Geomorphological`Representation Models: Breaking through a New Geomorphological Mapping Frontier” Salerno – Cilento & Vallo di Diano Geopark, Italy, 15-19 October 2012
The International Association of Geomorphologists (IAG/AIG), the University of Salerno and the National Park of Cilento & Vallo di Diano offer grants<of 500 (five hundred) Euros each to YOUNG GEOMORPHOLOGISTS (under 35 yrs old) who are willing to take part in the IAG/AIG International Workshop on Objective Geomorphological Representation Models: Breaking through a New Geomorphological Mapping Frontier. The grant holders will also be exempted from paying Workshop registration fees.
The aim of the Workshop is to focus on Geomorphological Mapping which has seen a resurgence in recent years due to the impressive power of morphometric analysis, remote sensing and other computational concepts and tools. This is also reflected in the worldwide renaissance of textbooks on geomorphological mapping and geomorphometry. The Workshop will include a number of keynote lectures by leading researchers in the field, followed by extensive discussion sessions. A one-day field/on-boat trip in the Cilento & Vallo di Diano Geopark will follow. The granted participants will be requested to attend a three-day Intensive Course on GIS-based Geomorphological Mapping (13-15 October) under the tutorship of GIS-expert, senior geomorphologists. The deadline for Abstract submission is 30 June.
